Causes of anxiety.
Anxiety is the result of a protection response, designed to keep us safe from harm or danger.
If the brain perceives a threat it releases two key hormones, adrenaline and cortisol, to prepare us for a ‘fight or flight’ response.
As society has developed, this system has become less useful, and it can sometimes be activated when there is no physical danger.
In this case, we can end up internalising these feelings, with no strategy to stop it.
