What is addiction?
Addiction is often defined as a loss or lack of control over a behaviour, to a point where it becomes harmful.
Whilst we might first think of addiction to alcohol, drugs or cigarettes, we can be addicted to a variety of different things including gambling, gaming, sex, prescription medicine, the internet, work and more.
It’s a surprisingly common issue; Action on Addiction report around one in three people are addicted to something.
Addiction can affect people’s mental & physical health, their personal, family & professional relationships, their financial situation and their careers.
Signs of addiction
Signs of addiction can vary from person to person, however, common ones can include:
